projects
We had to make a bumper sticker about one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This was another Confirmation assignment.
My friend and I did a history assignment about the Industrial Revolution in history class.
This is a Confirmation assignment. I drew oil and wrote different words representing the sacrament of Confirmation.
This is my Star Spangled Banner picture project for history class. I drew pictures to represent lyrics to the first verse of our national anthem.
This is a spelling/vocabulary poster I made. We had to show the word's definition, draw a symbol or illustration, and give a brief explanation about how the word affects our lives.
NAtional junior honor society (NJHS)

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
An image I was able to visualize very well, was when a character named Reyna had a nightmare. She got stabbed by a hunter in the gut with a sharp, iron shaft. As the pain slowly entered throughout her body, she looked up at the unknown protagonist. I imagined the hunter dark and mysterious, glaring right into Reyna’s fearful eyes. The hunter then pulled out another sharp arrow, but then he suddenly faded. Reyna’s pain, as well as the hunter, suddenly disappeared. (p. 62)
Something very important that happened in my reading was when these four demigods, Percy, Leo, Hazel, and Frank managed to trick, defeat, and capture the goddess, Nike (Goddess of Victory). This was extremely important to me because it was part of their plan and they have managed to achieve it! They needed to capture the goddess to defeat their main enemy, Gaea (Earth Goddess). These demigods made an impact on their next step to defeat Gaea, which I am very proud of. Without their skilled plans and teamwork, they would’ve been defeated by Nike.
“You promised to find a way back to her, and I just wanted to say if we do survive all this, I’ll do anything I can help to you. That’s a promise I will keep.”
This piece of text really made an impression on me because these words are so encouraging, inspirational, and kind. It’s a quote that makes me happy! Percy had said this to his friend, Leo, which really made him feel better about finding his true love in Ogygia Island--an island in which you can only find once and never find it again. Since it seemed almost impossible to find Ogygia Island again, Percy had promised to help Leo no matter what. It made the air clear up for the both of them and they were no longer in “bad terms”, which made me really happy.
One of the characters, Nico Di Angelo, was very curious when he found out that one of his friends were going to die. He started to ask his father, Hades (God of the Underworld), several questions that weren’t answered directly. If I found out that one of my friends or someone that I loved was going to die, I would immediately start spitting out questions. I would do this because I am quite nosey and very curious. Even if my mother was on the phone, I would ask, “Who’s that?! Who’s that?!” until she tells me who it is. I am, indeed, demanding. Although, I wouldn’t want to know at the same time. It’s unusual, but I guess that is who I am.

Community Service Essay Quarter 4
What I learned from community service this year was that giving up time to help others and the community is very important. As I said before, helping everyone out makes a huge difference. I also learned not to be selfish, but to be generous and a little selfless. The importance of community service was to put others first before themselves. My seventh grade year of community service was fun and I felt proud of myself for helping the community out.
This quarter, I did my service hours at Home Sweet Home and the Excelsior Library with a few friends. My responsibilities at Home Sweet Home were to help the elderly play bingo. I had to move the chips for the elders or point to the spot so they could move the chip there. My experience with playing bingo with the elders was not difficult, so I don’t think it was very challenging. My favorite part was when someone wins because they win a free ticket that they use at Home Sweet Home. Although I am unaware of what the ticket is used for. My responsibilities at the Excelsior library were to stack advertisement ‘Summer Reading’ cards and pamphlets. I had to stack 20 cards/pamphlets and rubber band them together. I also tutored a few kids who needed help with homework. The most challenging part was to count the cards/pamphlets because they were thick and sometimes I lost count. So I had to recount everything! I honestly don’t really remember much because I was so serious in getting the job done so I don’t really have a favorite part.
My favorite place to complete my community service hours was at CalTrans. Why? At CalTrans, I felt like I made a really big difference by picking up the trash underneath the freeways because there was A LOT of trash. It was also fun because I was with my friends. There, I was making a difference in the world little by little and just by picking all the trash up. Cleaning up the Earth was my favorite way to do my service hours! I hope I get to do it again next year.
In the end of my seventh grade community service years, I realized that doing community service is important, helpful, and fun. All these quarters of community service, I made a small difference in each place I’ve been to. I feel proud towards the time I took off for helping others. It is always good to put others first before themselves, as I said before. Now that I have completed all hours in my seventh grade year, I cannot wait to do my hours for eighth grade too!

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
A very descriptive image I was managed to visualise in my head was when John Steinbeck described the sunset from where George and Lennie were located. I imagined the sky fading slowly from a bold orange color to a dark blue. I also saw the large carp rising up to the surface of the water and sinking back down again. The fish’s abrupt movement caused many rings to form on the surface of the water. (p.10)
An important event that happened in my reading was when George tells Slim about what had happened to him and Lennie in Weed. I think this is important because I now know that George trusts Slim and Slim trusts George. George had told Slim about how Lennie wasn’t a bad guy despite his looks, and Slim believes him. Unlike Curley, he does not judge what is on the outside right away. Curley does not trust Slim because he assumes he is dating his wife and does not like Lennie because he’s a big guy.
“Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you.”
This quote really made an impression on me because this phrase describes companionship. Whether it’d be with your friends or family, you all got each others backs. If one falls, the other picks them back up. That is true friendship! Even though George is sometimes impatient with Lennie, they still protect and take care of each other. They stick together at all times. George and Lennie are the truest and bestest of friends.
When Carlson suggested on killing Candy’s dog, I would’ve acted the same in this situation. Honestly, if my dog was suffering every single day, I would put it to rest. I mean I know it sounds cruel to kill a dog, but it is already hurting itself so much! Plus, the dog is really old and it’s probably really exhausted. Imagine hurting everywhere (your stomach, head, etc.), every single day of your life and you’re just so sick and tired of it! Suffering terribly each day is extremely painful too.

The House of Hades Prequel
“Yeah,” Leo took one last look at the cityscape of Rome, turning bloodred in the sunset. “Festus, raise the sails. We’ve got some friends to save.”
Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, was sitting on the foremast of the Argo II. He was in deep thought. He was thinking about Percy and Annabeth, his friends who have fallen into Tartarus or a deep pit in the underworld. Percy is a son of Poseidon and Annabeth is a daughter of Athena. Nico remembered what Percy had told him before he fell.
“The other side, Nico! We’ll see you there. Understand? Lead them there! Promise me!”
Nico couldn’t break that promise.
“Hey Nico.” A very familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. It was her.
“B-Bianca Y-you-” Nico stuttered.
“Hey brother..” Bianca smiled weakly at him. Bianca Di Angelo, daughter of Hades, and Nico’s older sister who has died 7 years aog because she sacrificed herself to save her friends during a quest.
“W-what are you doing here?” He asked softly.
“It’s about Percy and Annabeth… they’re in deep trouble..” She said.
“No way!” Nico replied with sarcasm. She rolled her eyes.
“It’s not your fault.. Percy let go of the ledge.. it’s not your fault,” Bianca repeated. Nico didn’t reply, of course it was his fault.
“Look, they’re in Tartarus right now. Percy and Annabeth got each other. They can survive, I have that feeling. Even though I’m only a spirit with no actual nervous system. I know they will stay alive... and you,”
“You will lead the rest of the prophecy of the seven to the House of Hades, open the Doors of Death, and find Percy and Annabeth. It’s up to you Nico. You can do this, I believe in you.”
“Yeah, but-” Nico tried protesting.
“Goodbye Nico… and remember, lead them.” She smiled.
That was the last thing Bianca said to Nico for now. That was when he noticed his half sister, Hazel yelling Nico’s name and Leo running around furiously.
“NICO!” Hazel screeched. “WATCH OUT!”
Nico slid off the foremast and ran to his sister. They were being attacked by these mountain gods.
“THIS IS THE SECOND TIME!” Leo yelled.
“Leo, get us out of here!” Hazel shrieked. Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto or the Roman form of Hades is Nico’s half sister. Leo Valdez, is a son of Hephaestus. They were being attacked with rocks and boulders, again.
“NICO!” Hazel shoved him out of the way and crouched down as a boulder nearly crushed them to death. Leo yelled something Greek and finally drove away.
“According to Jason there’s going to be more of those..” Nico stated.
“Indeed.” Leo grinned. The rest of the seven, Frank Zhang, Piper McLean, and Jason Grace were their other friends. Jason is a son of Jupiter, the Roman form of Zeus. Frank is a son of Mars, the Roman form of Ares and Piper is a daughter of Aphrodite.
Nico went back up to the foremast and left Hazel and Leo alone. Nico had to find the House of Hades.
“It’s up to you Nico.” He remembered what Bianca told him. She was right. It is up to him. The rest of the seven need him. He could find the House of Hades and open the doors of death to find Percy and Annabeth. They will reach the other side, alive and in one piece, he thought. Nico had to put all his faith, courage, and strength for this journey. Nothing will ever get in their way, no matter how hard it gets. Even if another mountain god attacks them, they won’t stop. Nico looked down at land below them, waiting to see Greece. He will lead them, and he will reach the other side because Nico could never ever break that promise. Ever.

New Amsterdam
Before the colony of New York, the area controlled by the Dutch in the 1620s was called New Amsterdam. It was later named New York in honor of the Duke of York in 1664 after the English had taken control of it. This area was founded by the Dutch West India Company around the 1620s, known as New Netherland.
Henry Hudson had founded a wide river in present day New York in 1609, trying to find the North West Passage, but instead started a fur trade with beaver pelts which seemed to draw other traders to New Amsterdam, making it so popular. Beaver pelts, at the time were very valuable and could be sold at a high price, so many English Settlers went there to become wealthy. New Amsterdam’s large harbors and rivers provided many advantages such as busy trading ports and protection. The Hudson River was a very fitting place of settlement because it had quick access to the ocean and there was a beaver trading post in what is now, Albany. New Amsterdam’s territory seemed to be very convenient with trade.
Threatened by European colonies, the Dutch West India Company decided to set up a fortification to defend the Hudson River. In 1625, Fort Amsterdam was created, located at the southern tip of Manhattan. Fort Amsterdam was the center of the New Amsterdam settlement. Later, in 1664, the Dutch surrendered to the English, giving them their land, naming it New York. The English also renamed Fort Amsterdam as Fort James in honor of James II of England. The fort was a large target during the Stamp Act. George Washington finally seized the fort during the American Revolution.
After the English won New Amsterdam in 1664, the Dutch then returned later in August of 1673 taking control of New York. They renamed it New Orange and the fort, Fort Willem Hendrick in recognition of their Dutch leaders. In 1673, the English reclaimed New York again. In October of 1683, the royal governor of New York assembled the first New York Legislature. From 1689 - 1775, there was conflict between who controlled New Amsterdam. Eventually, it became the first capital of the United States after the American Revolution.
In conclusion, New Amsterdam was fought for, just like every other settlement or colony during the 1700s. The English and the Dutch both equally struggled for control of land. However, all of America’s history with New Amsterdam and the other settlements/colonies lead up to our present day, New York and the rest of our 50 states.

Dear Government Agency,
My name is George Milton, and my friend Lennie Smalls may have some serious troubles--he has a mental disability. He acts very child like and is very forgetful most of the time. Although I take care of him, I sometimes do get highly frustrated because I have no patience at all. It is extremely difficult, not just for me, but for Lennie who has difficulties in keeping up with the world around him. Lennie is very oblivious to the things happening around him and he doesn’t know his own strengths. I am very worried about him.
As I said, Lennie has a mental disability and cannot comprehend what people are saying to him. He usually minds his own business. We have this dream we have together, where once we save enough money, we’ll buy our own home and farm and ‘live on the fatta the land’. He makes me repeat our dream, even though he basically memorized it. It’s probably the only thing he ever remembers because he knows I’ll let him tend rabbits. It makes me really mad, and whenever I yell at him for being him, I feel bad after yelling angrily at him. Lennie gets scared easily too, which was basically the reason we lost our jobs back in Weed. I don’t wanna lose our jobs anymore and he is my responsibility. This is why I need your help.
I suggest you help me and put Lennie in good hands. I want him educated and nurtured in a special home, with lots of patient doctors/nurses. Almost like a hospital, but not quite. I want it to be a home so he could be happy and think it was our dream come true. I also suggest the doctors give him medicine for whatever his case is, if it is severe or not. I would visit him almost daily, and maybe even take part in paying for all of this with my work money. Even my other friends, Candy and Slim agree and will cooperate in this. We all believe Lennie is a great guy who could do so much more if he knew his strengths and challenges, and I think he should get treated better so he could accomplish all these great things.
In conclusion, I just need Lennie to be safe, happy, and cared for. Although he is great working in the fields, I think he needs more taking care of due to his disabilities. I also think people like him should get more recognition. They shouldn’t be ignored because they are “different”, we are all the same and they should be treated the same way as we do. Please help, not just Lennie, but for me and the rest of the world who has disabilities like Lennie. Thank you and please do be considerate.
Sincerely,
George Milton

Artist Report
For my artist report, I chose to do Vincent Van Gogh. Why? Well, I chose him because I really liked the way he painted and all of his works. Van Gogh’s well-known painting is The Starry Night, and that painting inspired me. I will not just be writing about Vincent Van Gogh, but I will be writing about my experience with painting.
Van Gogh’s technique started out with drawing. He was a self-taught artist which was pretty impressive. Van Gogh’s painting techniques consisted of bold, dramatic brush strokes using watercolor. At first when he started painting, he enjoyed painting with melancholy, dark colors. However, when he became better at it, he used bright, vibrant colors. Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings are expressed through emotion. Also, Van Gogh became more advanced every single day of his life, so his paintings got better and better.
Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night is my favorite painting. The Starry Night was created by the wonderful artist Vincent Van Gogh in June 1889. The painting shows Van Gogh’s view from his room window at Saint Remy de Provence (Located in France) at night. However, he painted this during the day and it was just a memory in his head he cooperated with to create this amazing painting.
My painting is a painting of the sky at night. As you can tell The Starry Night inspired me greatly. I decided to paint with dark and light blue colors. I also mixed in white to add clouds, stars, and the moon. Of course, I mixed in the two blue colors to produce a nice shade of blue. I tried to depict the beauty of the night sky and its wonderful bright stars that provide light through the darkness.
My experience with painting was extremely fun! It was awkward at first because I didn’t really know what to do, but once I got comfortable with it, I totally felt like I was one of the Renaissance artists. (Even though I’m not) It was fun mixing colors too. This was my first time painting on a canvas too, so it was pretty awesome. To be honest, I loved painting this and I’m thinking of trying to paint more on canvases this time!
Overall, it was, again, an awesome and fun experience to learn more about my favorite artist. It was also awesome to paint on a canvas with acrylic paints. I hope one day I get to see The Starry Night in real life-which is located at Museum of Modern Art in New York. I also hope I get to paint more on canvases over the summer because I’m interested.
